It’s circus week throughout the center and it has been filled with many interesting activities here in the infant room.  Our older children have been able to go outside and take an art activity with them – they painted at the easel while watching the birds and the chipmunks play around them.  They dropped animal cookie cutters into a box for a great fine motor activity while for language they have listened to some really fun books.  They have tried their hand at completely one-piece puzzles and stacking ice cream cones onto one another, which is a fun way to help them learn how to stack without always using blocks.  The younger infants watched animal puppets sing and tell stories, watched bubbles float around the room and worked on gross motor skills by getting on all fours, pulling to standing, and sitting independently while reaching for toys in front of them.  They have all listened to silly circus music while they played with sensory bottles (they love to shake them as fast as they can), and while they practiced rolling and tossing small textured balls.  It has been a fun week of mixing outside play with indoor silliness.  Next week, we will move onto talking about those moms and mom figures that play such a pivotal role in their lives.
