It’s the start of a new school year, new friends and a new classroom for some. Our friends have adjusted nicely to all the newness and happenings in the classroom. Monday in art the children painted with koosh rings and in language the children traced their names with bingo chips. In math the children sorted bear counters by color. Tuesday, in art, the children painted with watercolor paints and in language they matched letters to the letters in their name. In math the children sorted people counters into big and little groups. Wednesday in language the children dictated what their favorite part of preschool is and in math they strung apple jacks, and counted how many they added when they finished. This stringing experience incorporated eye hand coordination as well. Today in art the children created apple prints using real apples to paint with. In language the children matched lettered apples to letters on a tree. In math the children worked with a color graph to sort people counters by color and this afternoon we will look for shapes around the room. The children also started to learn the rules of each area of the classroom, and they helped share rules they already know. Tomorrow in art the children will paint with stamps and in language they will practice their writing skills by writing, or tracing school words. In math the children will engage in a path game to get the school bus to school. In the sensory table this week the children have been practicing their scissor skills to cut paper.
