Happy Fall! This happens to be our theme for the week. We talked about the seasons and how they are different. Fall is when the weather starts getting cooler and we can wear our hoodies. The children said that we don’t need our winter jackets yet because it isn’t that cold outside. We discussed different things that happen in the Fall such as the leaves turning colors (red, yellow, brown, and orange) and the leaves fall off the trees. Some children said that they go apple picking with their families and go on hay rides. Others said that they love Fall because they can jump into the leaves and they get candy for Halloween. We noticed that the leaves hadn’t changed colors yet and when I asked why, some of the children said it’s not cold enough for the leaves to change colors. We had different opinions as to why and it was interesting to hear what they thought.
We made a Cc word list, practiced writing Fall words, matched letters to the Fall words, practiced writing our name, practiced writing letters, and recited the letters of the alphabet. We did a leaf matching game matching uppercase letters to uppercase letters and lowercase letters to uppercase letters.
We recited numbers 0-20, subitized the number of acorns, number recognition, practiced writing numbers, rolled dice and counted leaves, and we practiced counting out loud using 1:1 correspondence. Some of the children were counting too fast so we worked on counting slower while pointing to each object.
We did a leaf rubbing while using real leaves, we did a Jonny Appleseed art project, and the children made an apple tree using sticks, pom poms, and pipe cleaners.
This week we talked about what we can do to calm ourselves because some of our friends were missing their mommies and daddies this week. We taught the children how to take deep breaths and slowly exhale when we start to feel sad. We told them that it’s okay to be sad but we know that we will see our mommies and daddies later because they pick us up from school.
