It has been a week all about the colors red and pink as we celebrate Valentine’s Day throughout the center. Our older children have been finger painting, brush painting, and affixing paper pieces to a heart shaped piece of contact paper. There have been many books read about love and songs sung about the same thing, They have danced and moved to music, matched lids with containers, tossed bean bags into baskets, watched bubbles float by and tried their hand at pulling yarn from the tops of wipes containers. Nesting cups have presented different activities depending on their age – while the older ones are working on stacking them or fitting them inside one another, our younger children are clapping them together and banging them up and down on the floor. We have taped sticks to the floor and let them try working their finger and hand muscles to pull them off. They have practiced walking, sitting, crawling, tummy time and pulling to standing. Puzzles were tried as they tried hard to fit them into the correct spaces – taking them off the board was just as exciting though. Sign language with a new “I Love You” sign being demonstrated has been consistently practiced and used throughout the week. Chalking, shaking sensory bottles, and using shape sorters are also coming up for them to try. What a fun week to talk about the people that love them and we are all excited to see what next week brings us!
