It has been a fun filled week of activities for St. Patrick’s day! Monday in art the children cut, or tore orange and green paper and then glued the pieces on a rectangle to make the Irish flag. In math the children worked on patterning items such as pots of gold, rainbows and shamrocks. In language the children matched pictures of various items and as they matched the children said the word and they sounded out the beginning letter.. Tuesday in art the children marble painted shamrocks and in math they looked at many decorated shamrocks and talked about the similarities and differences of them. In language the children matched uppercase and lowercase lettered shamrocks. The children also explored a fine motor activity to bingo dot gold on pots of gold. Wednesday in art the children created a leprechaun by drawing a face, adding eyes and fork painting his beard. In math the children graphed Lucky Charm marshmallows. In language the children dictated how to catch a leprechaun and it was made into another class book! Today in art the children constructed 3D rainbows and in math the children engaged in a rainbow roll and cover game where they rolled a die, counted the dots to see what number coin to cover on the rainbow. In language the children practiced writing letters in a tray of salt, and under the salt was a rainbow! The fine motor activity today was the children practiced tracing straight, curvy and zig zag lines. Tomorrow in art the children will do a pot of gold art activity, ask them what exactly they did with it! In math the children will count coins and in language they will do a pot of gold letter sound sort activity. In the sensory table this week the children did some digging for gold using tongs and shovels through cornmeal.
