Preschoolers love bugs and insects! Monday in art the children created ant hills by tearing brown paper into pieces and gluing to paper. In math the children explored ants on a log by identifying the number on the log, and adding the same number bugs and insects to it. In language the children matched letters on an ant farm. Tuesday in art the children glued black spots to a ladybug and in math they matched numbered spots to the number on the ladybug. In language the children engaged in a bug bingo game. We also had a special visitor come read to us, Kyle Baker, one of Lakewood s council members. Wednesday in art the children painted with cups to make a caterpillar and in math the children created caterpillar patterns with bingo chips. In language the children retold the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar using felt pieces. Today we started off the morning with another visitor from Lakewood council, Sarah Keppler and she read a story as well. In art the children painted butterflies and in math the children added legs to a bug using a die to tell how many to add. In language the children will start another classroom book dictating hat they know about bugs. Tomorrow in art the children will make hand print grasshoppers and in math they will sort bugs and insects by color. In language the children will practice their writing as they write and/or trace bug and insect words. In the block area this week the children worked with bugs and tree ring blocks. In the sensory table the children worked with rice, small colanders, bowls and spoons. For fine motor activity this week the children used tongs to pick up pom poms and transfer them to a tray.
