Things that go, go go! This week, we talked about different vehicles and the ones that we are familiar with. We talked about how much transportation has changed over the years and I showed the children pictures. They couldn’t believe that some cars had a crank to turn it on! I told them that they used a horse to get around places and horses and buggies are still being used today by the Amish people. I think it’s safe to say that they were shocked about how people got around. We had a discussion at great length about how people got around back in the old days. One of the children asked me if I had to use a crank to turn my car on and I told the children that that was WAY before my time.
We did an activity where we put the transportation cards in order by placing them underneath the alphabet cards, we dictated how we can be safe around cars, and we did a Transportation ABC tracing with cars. The children did a Vehicle Sight Word Builder activity using transportation cards and they practiced writing letters using the alphabet cards. They used the transportation cards to sort them by land, air, and water and they sorted the letters finding the ones that have circles.
They did a Transportation patterning activity, they used the Hot Wheels cars to count by picking a number, they played a Transportation Memory Match game and they did simple subtraction. The other activities they did are counting by 5’s and they did a Transportation number tracing activities using the Hot Wheels.
They made their own paper plate vehicles, they used the cars and black paint to make car tracks on white construction paper, and they made hot air balloons using a variety of materials such as straws, construction paper, paper plates, and so on. The art this week was messy but oh, so much fun!
Our butterflies are hatched! We are so excited and the children were worried that we wouldn’t be able to set then free once their wings dried. We were able to set them free and we watched as they flew away.
We are getting closer and closer to our big event…Circus! The children have been practicing very hard and they are so excited to show off their acts! We are excited as well! I send an email out detailing what they would need to wear on the day of the circus. If you haven’t gotten the email, please feel free to let me know and I can send it out.
If you have any questions or concerns, about anything, please feel free to reach out!
