This week is Camping Week! We talked about camping and which do we prefer: to camp in a text or in a camper. Most of the children said that they would prefer to sleep in a camper because the ground if very hard and uncomfortable. We discussed where we can go camping such as our backyard, in the woods, campgrounds, or even in our drive way. The children learned that there are some people who camp all year around by traveling to different campground, they may camp the whole summer, or even just for the weekend. They were really surprised that people camp all year around and I explained that some people may either have the money to do that or they are retired. I showed them different pictures of campers, campgrounds, tents, and how people camp. We made real s’mores and the children were able to take them home.
We talked about what we would need for camping and the children gave me different things to write down. We listened to different animal sounds and the children had to tell me what animal they think it is. We came up with safety rules for camping. We did some letter matching games as well.
We practiced counting rocks using number cards. The children played a Camping Memory game, the children practiced counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. The children played Camping Bingo with me being the caller. We played a number recognition game where they had to count out the number of objects and find the corresponding number.
We made binoculars, S’mores out of construction paper, and the children drew a picture of themselves camping.
