This week’s theme is Numbers where we talked about where we can find numbers. The children stated that we find numbers on houses, walls, windows, paper, on cards, and on things that we buy at the store. I asked the children if numbers stop; some said yes at 20, 50, and 100 while others said that numbers go on forever. We talked about numbers being on money and the children stated that money comes from a bank which had me ask them if they know how the bank gets the money. They said that the banks get the money from the money store, magazine, or mail truck. i explained that the money actually comes from the federal reserve who brings the money to the bank and that’s how we get our money. We had a wonderful week talking about numbers.
The children practiced writing number words on the magic writing board. They practiced writing Ff and five on the dry erase board with a dry erase marker. We did an activity where we had to recall details in “Five Little Pumpkins” and make up our own story. The children drew their own versions of the story after they made up their own version. We did a Ff word list where they had to tell me what sound the letter makes and come up with a list of words that start with Ff. We have been working on sight words this week.
I introduced greater than, less than, and equal to the children and we did some problems where they told me which number was bigger, smaller or equal to. They did an activity where they had to find the missing number on the 0-20 number chart. They did an activity where they matched the numbers to the number line and they matched numbers. They did a 0-20 number recognition activity where they had to verbally state the number on the card
They did a number art project where they got to choose that number they wanted and they write the number and it’s name, they made dots with the bingo dabbers, and they put stickers on as well. We did a 5 Little Pumpkins art project and we made 100 ants using ink to make the ants. Some of the children drew legs and faces on the ants.
