We had so much fun going Around the World!  We leaned new languages, customs, and we went to different countries such as Japan, China, Italy, Australia, Germany, Egypt, and Ireland.   I had little passports for the children and they loved having it stamped after “visiting” each country.  They had so much fun hearing different words in different languages and they got to write their name in Chinese!

We came up with a Gg word list, the children practiced writing Gg and they named things around us that start with Gg.  They did a Letter Sound activity where they had to identify what the object in the picture is, what letter it starts with, and the sound that the letter makes.  We learned what words such as hello, goodbye look like in different languages, and we practiced writing names of different countries.

The children learned how to use an abacus by moving the beads to the other side when counting..  We did an Australian Count and Clip activity where they had to count the number of objects and use the clothes pin to clip the number.  They did an activity where they had to pick a number card and count out the number of pepperoni for their pizza.  They did an activity called Ireland Patterning where they only used the colors of the flag of Ireland when they made their patterns, and we did an Egypt Bingo activity.

In Art, they made the flag of Japan using crayons, Bingo Dabbers, torn red paper, or tissue paper squares.  We did the flag of Italy using watercolors, and they got to make their own version of cookies using construction paper.

We had two field trips this week where we went to the Fire Station and we gave the firefighters cookies and candy.  They showed us around the fire station and we got to spray water out of a tank!  We got to see the inside of a tire truck and one of the firefighters showed us how quickly they get their gear on!  Our other field trip was to the Beck Center where we got to see a play, “Bringing Down the House” that one of our LCCC alum was in.  The children really enjoyed the play!
