Our Weather theme this week certainly fits for the snow that we had this week. The children were so excited to see the snow and they cannot wait until there’s more snow on the ground. They also noticed that it was windy, cloudy, cold, and sunny this week. We talked about the weather and the seasons that are associated with the weather. We talked about what type of clothes we should wear when it gets cold and the children said that we need to dress warm when its very cold out and when it’s hot out, we don’t need to wear warm clothes because we would get hot. I posed the question of what should we do in severe weather and they said that we should stay inside if it’s stormy or if there’s lightening. One of the children brought up the time we lost power and they said they loved that because we got to home.
We made a Jj word list and they practiced writing Jj. Some of the children struggled coming up with Jj words so I read the Jj word book and they were able to listen for the Jj words and they verbally were able to tell me what words they heard. They practiced writing weather related words and we did a dictation of What’s the weather like today.
We officially made it 50 which is half way through our 100 Days of School chart and the children are so excited! They have not only been learning the number recognition but they have been figuring out what number comes next. They did an activity where they picked a number cards and use the snowflake connectors to make the number. They did a 2-D cloud shape recognition activity where they had to say what the shape is that they see on the cloud. We did a pipe cleaner counting activity. They did a matching game and put the numbers in order.
We did a Cloud and Raindrop art project where they spelled out their name by writing each letter on a raindrop and gluing it to the cloud. We made sunshine by coloring the paper plate, making, cutting out orange triangles and gluing them onto the paper plate.
We have a new friend starting in our classroom and the children welcomed her with open arms. They are so excited that we have a new friend and they cannot wait until they get to play with the new friend!
If you have signed up for conference that is coming up on Tuesday, please have 2 goals ready that you would like your child to work on. I cannot wait to meet with you to talk about the progress your child is making!
