It has been a week of many conversations about our families, who is in our families and what relatives are. Monday in art the children painted with people shape sponges and in language the children looked at different family pictures and talked about what the family was doing. We extended and asked if they did the same type of activities such as watching a movie together, eating diner together, reading books, shopping and so on. In math the children matched the mom farm animal to the baby arm animal. Tuesday in art the children designed a house using only triangle shapes on paper with glue. In language the children dictated all about their family: how many people, who they are and things they like to do together. In math the children counted fami8ly members on a card and needed to attach a clip to the matching number. Wednesday in art the children painted with pencil erasers and in language they picked a letter house from a pile and needed to match the letter to he neighborhood map. In math the children created family pictures using family member pictures. Today in art the children painted with paint sticks and some children finished their headbands for the feast In language the children wanted to match letters to the map again, so we followed their interest and put it back out. In math the children looked at family photo pictures and used individual family member photos to copy the image on a paper. We celebrated Thanksgiving with all the classrooms in the great room, and as always lots of good food and company. Tomorrow in art the children will watercolor paint their names and in language they will hunt for letters around the room by taking a letter and looking for its match., In math the children will choose what game or activity they would like to do. In the sensory table this week the children continued to practice their cutting practice and in science we added magnets., The block area continues to be busy with the cars and tracks and the baby area continues to show strong interest and we added baby cots to the space. We added more conce4ssion stand food to the drama area in the Theater, there’s hot dogs, burgers, pizza and pretzels. We also added pancakes and waffles instead of candy! We brought in trays for the children to put their food on as they watch the movie. The children have been more into sorting the food on the trays or setting them on the benches. Next week we will add more pictures to place on the movie screen to spark more conversation and movie watching. This afternoon and tomorrow we will be looking at our turkey in the window and the children will share how they decorated their feather and what they are thankful for.
