I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday!  The children adjusted very well after having a long break.  They came in smiling and telling us about what they got for Christmas, what they did over the break. and they were very excited to come back to school.

We started our week with Out of this World which is a fun theme because we get to learn about the planets, stars, sun, Milky Way and anything else space related.  We learned about the different planets and why life cannot be sustained in some of the planets.  We know that Earth is the only planet that is able to sustain life.  The children learned that our sun is technically a star!  We learned about astronauts, what their job is, and how important their job is.

We made a list of words that started with Pp, reviewed letter sounds, practiced writing Solar System words, practiced writing sight words, and we did a rocket ship letter matching game.  We reviewed the names of the planets and the children were able to tell me details about the plants and they were able to recite the planets in order.

We did a solar system patterning activity using t  he unifex cubes, number sequencing, recalled what number comes next, number recognition using the 100 Days of School chart.  We did a lot of number reviewing this week as some children were forgetting some of the numbers but they started ot remember as we reviewed them.

In Art, we drew anything space related using chalk and black construction paper.  They were given white circles where they were able to create a new planet or an existing one.  They used legos to try to build their own rocket ship and they were creative!  They wanted to keep going to try to create one each day!
