The theme this week is Black History and to make it relevant for our babies, we have added more diversity to the room in the way of the dolls and puppets they are playing with and exploring.  The children have listened to stories that we have read and songs that are playing throughout their day.  The older children played with magnet letters on a cookie sheet, tried completing one piece puzzles, rolled balls to teachers and dropped popsicle sticks into the top of coffee cans.  They are working on identifying body parts on themselves and using the dolls that are out in the room.   Stacking rings, nesting cups, and shape sorters have been used to practice fine motor skills.  Peek-a-boo has been played with scarves as well as discovering the penguins as we talked about their colors and the way they waddle.  Shakers have been shaken, paint has been used while standing or sitting at the easel and occupation people have been out to discover.  They have watched puppets and marched with us around the room as we sang Ants Go Marching.  The explored an obstacle course in the Great Room where they had the opportunity to crawl through a tunnel and up and over some stair mats.  They have been busy all week while we stayed warm in the classroom and next week they will have some different activities centered around different artists.  Promises to be a lot of fun!
