Happy Spring! We are so excited that it’s starting to warm up! We talked about what type things that happen in the spring such as animals coming out of hibernation, birds flying back, buds growing, and it will starting raining. We had a discussion on how weather changes in the spring where it will rain, thunderstorm, and get hot/cold. They also noticed that it does get very windy some days which is true. The wind helps the seeds spread so tit makes new flowers and food the the animals. We need wind for that and without wind, it would be impossible for the seeds to fall on the ground to make new plants and food.
I had the children help me come up with a Spring word list and they were able to tell me what words are associated with Spring. We made a Zz word list. The children reviewed sight words that we have done so far. They practiced writing spring related words using the dry erase board. They dictated what they liked best about spring and drew a picture. They practiced writing Zz because it can be hard for some children so practice makes perfect! We did a rhyming word activity where they were given the ending and they had to come up with the beginning like cat, hat, bat and so on. We did a Spring sequencing activity.
They did an activity where they made shapes using the geoboard. We did patterning and counted 25 blocks by stacking them up without them falling over. They used unifex cubes to make flowers or something that reminds them of spring. They used people connectors to make it as long as they can and they counted out how many they did before they fell apart. They did a flower number matching activity where they either matched numbers to numbers or the number words to numbers.
We did a Very Hungry Caterpillar art project, they made a Spring scene using water colors, and we made kites! We had so much fun this week with the different art projects.
We had a discussion this week about not running in the classroom and in front of our peers. The children were given reminders throughout the day about being safe and being kind.
Don’t forget that next Friday, we close at 12:00 and it’s a School age day! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
