Learning About Black Inventors - Young Toddler

This week we learned all about black inventors and figures. In art we glued a variety of different people on a bus, we reinvented Garrett Morgan's stop light as we glued red, yellow, and green paper on our very own stop lights, and we painted with colored shaving cream. The children explored activities in relation to famous inventors and people in Black History. Monday in art the children engaged their small muscles as they cut, or tore, yellow, red, and green paper to glue together a traffic light. This week in the infant classroom the theme is Black History month! We have talked about quite a bit this week but here are a few crowd favorites. The older infants loved reading different cultural books and talking about diversity and black history! The children had a fun week learning about cooking. We learned how to be safe while we are helping our mommies and daddies cook and that some stuff in our kitchen may hurt us. We learned how to use measuring cups and different utensils in the kitchen such as tongs, spatula, measuring spoons, etc. We did a few science experiments as well! This week was all about food, cooking and healthy vs. not-so-healthy food choices. We started our week with painting with colored ice. We made a noodle collage with 3 different kinds of noodles, we used kitchen utensils to paint with and we even "painted" on bread and then toasted it for a little treat. This week the children explored cooking themed activities and experiences in the classroom. Monday in art the children glued together a pizza by using a red paint/glue mixture to paint on sauce and then add yellow "cheese" paper strips, and green "peppers" and red "pepperoni" circles to the plate.
