Music Genres - Summer School Age

This week's theme is Music where the children listen to different genres of music such as Classical, Jazz/Blues, Raggae, Country, and 80's. They had to guess what genre the music was and most recognized Classical and Jazz music because they said their parents listen to these. We drew and/or painted pictures while listening to music. Hello families! We hope you are doing well and we wanted to let you know what this week was all about. This week the children learned about different genres of music. We started our week calm with some classical music on Monday then Tuesday we picked up the pace with some reggae. Wednesday we learned about jazz/blues and the children felt that the music was too sad for their liking. This week the children engaged in activities with a music theme. Monday in math the children engaged in a musical instrument bingo game and in art they painted at the easel with sponges. Tuesday the children engaged in musical instrument bingo again and practiced writing letters in language. We took a nice walk around the neighborhood. It's Christmas in July! Minus the presents. This week our theme was Christmas and the children enjoyed incorporating the Christmas spirit in their activities. In language this week, we read various Christmas related books, played "I Spy" with Christmas themed objects, and wrote letters to Santa. We started the week off by going to Great Lakes Science Center where the children learned different things about Space, did many different hands-on exhibits, played in the Polymer Funhouse, and Port Polymer. We had a fun week celebrating Christmas in July! We made Christmas lists, a palm tree Christmas tree and played with lots of green and red in the sensory table! We love Christmas! This week in the infant classroom the theme is Christmas in July! Here are a few of our favorites from the week. The infants all enjoyed making snow man sensory baggies with whip cream inside! We pointed to eyes nose and arms on the snowmen as well as our own bodies. We also made jumbo ice cubes with pop sticks from inside them and practiced pushing them around on red and green colored paper!
