All About Friends - Young Toddler

Posted by [email protected] on September 9, 2021 at 4:20 PM Comments comments (6)

It’s a week all about our friends and we have been having so much fun with our activities and our group times with these friends. They decorated strips of paper that were then linked together to make a friendship chain. The children were paired up to paint together on poster board - it was different but so much fun for them! They practiced their fine motor skills by using lacing cards and then explored number magnets while the teachers labeled them for them while they sat at the table all together. There were follow the direction song/games such as “Ring Around the Rosie” and “Follow the Leader” which they love to mimic and imitate everyone around them. The children tried their hands at using magnifying glasses to study plastic bugs and during group times and transitions, they have been listening to books about different friends. It has been a week of the children learning to cooperate and participate with each other and they have been doing wonderfully! Next week, it is a week full of different shapes and colors!

This week's theme is "All About Me" and they have had a lot of fun with activities that center around them. The teachers outlined their bodies and then they got to paint "themselves", they outlined their hands and then used ink to make their fingerprints, they painted tin foil mirrors to look into and they drew faces onto a paper plate. How fun that these activities were a great opportunity to learn all about themselves! They also used bingo dabbers on paper, played with sensory bottles full of rice and beads, walked along chalk drawn lines and marched around the room to "The Ants Go Marching". All of this and books about being a superhero and celebrating just being them!

They have been very busy but full of smiles as they explored the different ways to use their bodies. Next week, they will be exploring the animals of the rainforest, how exciting!

Lego Week - Young Toddler

It is Lego week throughout the center and the young toddler classroom is making the most of it. They have been painting with Lego's and then painting a Lego cutout to then try to "stack" them together. Other art activities have had them trying their hand at gluing, specifically different shapes to paper. They have been making a lot of music so a parade was in order - they had different musical instruments and blocks to clap together as they moved around the room together. Mixing colors in bottles and sorting colored balloons were two activities that they were fascinated by and that they wanted to watch and do for quite awhile. They had a Lego race while pushing large Lego blocks across the classroom and then had the opportunity to try balancing on those same Lego's and trying to hop off of them. Of course, there were plenty of opportunities to build with plenty of Lego's, big and small, and there were some fun interesting books about the adventures that could be had while being a Lego superhero. This has been a fun theme for them and next week will be all about the return to school.

It’s construction week and they have had so much fun with all different types of vehicles and building materials in songs, books and activities. Their art activities included running trucks through paint on paper, gluing white strips of paper on a stop sign, and painting on bubble wrap. Gross and fine motor skills were practiced when they “followed” roads made of tape with small trucks, built with various sizes of blocks and tore paper while sitting with friends. They played a game of matching with various tool box items and dropped balls down tubes. They listened to a “big” book called Company is Coming and another book called Big Wheels. They had so much fun doing a counting finger play called Beehive and doing the motions to Johnny’s Hammer. We aren’t swimming this week but will be in the pool twice next week while we get to also celebrate Christmas in July, so stay tuned for some fun updates on everything they will get to do!
