Cooking Fun - Infant

Posted by [email protected] on January 13, 2022 at 1:35 PM Comments comments (6)

This week in the infant classroom the theme is cooking! We have explored quite a bit but here are a few of our favorites! The younger infants loved exploring plastic food, plates and measuring cups. We worked on grasping the different items as well as making music by banging on the pots and pans with spoons! The older infants used those same items and practiced making healthy lunches with teachers and other friends in the room. We also used dry wash rags and practiced “washing” the pots and pans in the play sink! We also tried painting by stamping half an apple up and down in paint and then on paper! The group also loved watching a teacher put oil, water and food coloring in a baggie, and exploring it on the classroom floor under clear contact paper. It has been a wonderful week, but we look forward to a new theme next week! Until next time.

Welcome Back to Space! - Pre-K 9-3

Posted by [email protected] on January 6, 2022 at 1:40 PM Comments comments (287)

Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your children. This week, we talked about the Solar System and the children learned about gravity and why its important, the primary planets, dwarf planets, moon, and sun. We did a Solar System matching game where the children had to match the cards. Each card was cut in half with the names of the planets to help the children match. We practiced writing simple sentences, practiced writing letter Nn and 13. We did something new which was color with oil pastels and we made a pastel aurora! The children loved using the oil pastels and have asked if they can use them again! We made stars using marshmallows, white painted and black paper and we made snowmen. They told me that they really enjoyed doing the art projects. I also have been focusing on proper pencil grip. Some children seem to like it and for some, it may take some time but it will help them learn how to properly hold their pencil.

We did Astronaut Yoga in the Great Room because it was too cold to go outside and the children seemed to enjoy it and we will try to do more yoga in the classroom. Speaking of going outside, please make sure your children have gloves, hat, winter jacket, etc. If they do not have gloves, hat, etc, we can loan your child one. I wanted to let you know that the children are not allowed on the bow tie, monkey bars, and rock wall with gloves on because of the metal or if there is snow and/or ice. Some gloves do not have a good grip and they could fall off. We want to make sure they stay safe and warm while we are playing outside.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Michelle!

Learning About Space - Pre-K

Posted by [email protected] on January 6, 2022 at 1:40 PM Comments comments (16)

Hello Earthlings!

That's right...we have been learning about space and everything that it has to offer! We learned about the order of the planets from the Sun. The order of the planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Now, we did not forget about Pluto...we discussed that Pluto is now a dwarf planet so it is not big enough to be a planet like us. This week, we also worked on our letter and number recognition with various space themed activities. At the science table, we had an awesome sun, star, and planet balancing activity where the sun is the center and the children had to put the planets and stars on each side to balance it out. In the sensory bin this week, the children had fun playing with the mini astronauts, aliens, rockets and spaceships that we had in there. The coolest part of it all...those objects are able to be taken apart and put back together. This week, we also learned about the letter Nn. We made a list of Nn words, read the Nn book and sang the letter Nn song. It has bee a fun filled week of space exploration, learning about the different planets and how astronauts live in space. We are happy to see everyone back after the holidays and hope that you have a fun and safe weekend!

All Things Space - Pre-School

Posted by [email protected] on January 6, 2022 at 1:40 PM Comments comments (2)

This has been a great week exploring all things space! On Monday in art the children made spaceships with foil and cups. In math the children played outer space bingo and in language the children dictated what is in space. The children also worked on their eye hand coordination as they traced lines along a rocket ship to take off. Tuesday in art the children swirled red and yellow paint under saran wrap to create their very own planet. In language the children wrote while lying under the table, just like an astronaut!! Wednesday the children worked their small muscles while exploring playdough. In language the children tossed bean bags on to lettered plates and in math they matched planet numbers 1-10. Today in art the children did some coffee filter painting and in language they wrote letters and created constellations with star stickers at the points of the letters. In math the children-built rockets with sugar cubes, adding and counting the pieces. Tomorrow in art the children will work with shaving cream and watercolor paints by swirling marbles through the mixture. In language the children will dictate what they would take with them to space and i math they made craters with golf als and playdough. This week in the sensory table the children have been exploring rice with planets!

Space Ships- Older Toddler

We introduced the theme with various planets, Astronauts, rocket ships/space ships and picture cards. We name them daily and have the children point to them on the board to practice recognition and learn new words/print.

Art

the children made a Rocket ship by gluing on foam pieces and foil to Rocket shape, Moon painting with foil stampers, silver paint and black paper to make "moon" impressions, letter "S" gluing with glitter, Earth- sponge painting with blue/green paint on paper plates and Friday we will make a space theme wreath with black paint and stars.

Math

The children explored with Space grid mats and colored circle stickers to follow and make a pattern that turns into a shape, colored peg boards and pegs to match same color pegs to boards by staking or by alternating colors to make patterns, we used baking pans with golf balls to roll around the "moon", and Friday we will name and match planets/solar system picture cards. sun, moon, earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury.

Motor Development

We explored with something" new "colored neon foam balls with glow stars- The children pulled a part and squeezed the foam ball with their hands to explore the texture, and pressed the glow stars onto the foam balls to make impressions, Foam Blocks w/ tooth picks- the children stayed very engaged and focused with this activity as they poked each tooth pick into the blocks making them stand and making various designs, we explored with green/blue play dough with green/blue stars to make "craters" and to make straws stand up.

Sensory Bin

Mini black beans, blue pails, clear shovels and small glow stars

Activities- Social/emotional

Moon Race- The children held spoons with foil moon balls and walked from one side of the great room to the other-trying not to drop the ball.

what If.... song with actions/movement

Friday

What is Energy? Energy to Fly We will do slow/fast activity and feel our hearts

Space - Young Toddler

The children blasted out of this world and into art as they glued various shapes together to create their own rockets. They did a moon painting with silver paint and an earth painting with blue and green paint. They used contact paper and tissue paper to create suns.

They practiced their math skills with peg boards, counting and putting bracelets on cones, and counting and sorting blocks by color. They got to emerge in science as they created and played with moon sand.

The children practiced their language skills by reading various books about stars and rockets and singing songs such as, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. They interacted with playdough, used bingo daubers and even attempted to help Miss Rasta put together a solar system puzzle. The children worked on their physical development as they did a moon race with foil balls across the great room. The children also talked about and read about different feelings and practiced making feeling faces.

On Friday, the children will practice their cognitive skills by matching planet and solar system cards. They will practice their motor development by using tongs to put foil balls into containers They will continue the space theme by creating a black wreath with stars and planets and practicing their language skills as we sing, Mr. Sun.

Out of this World - Infant

This week in the infant classroom the theme is Out of this world! We have had a blast during our first full week back, but here are a few crowd favorites! We had a new friend start in the infant classroom this week and our friends have loved singing the “Look who came to school today” song and waving to our friends in the room. We explored mini flash lights and turned all the lights off in the classroom. It was fun for the older infants to practice pressing the small button on the flash lights to change the color of the light. We also practiced our gluing skills by gluing yellow star shapes to black paper using sponge brushes. We have read different sensory books, explored stacking rings and chalk boards and even enjoyed some of the warmer weather outside earlier this week! We look forward to a new theme next week, until next time!

Learning About Winter - Pre-K 9-3

Posted by [email protected] on December 16, 2021 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (33)

This week was a short week but a fun week. The children were learning about Winter and we did many different activities such as finding the missing number, number recognition up to 15, simple addition, greater than and less than, naming things that start with Mm in our classroom, etc. We talked about how we can be safe while we are playing outside and the children all agreed that we need our coats, mittens, hats, boots, and scarves to keep us warm. We said we cannot run if its icy outside because we can slip and fall! We talked about what rules our mommies and daddies have at home. Most said that we have to be kind to others. The children loved putting the Frozen puzzles together and it was the most requested item they wanted to do when they came in the morning!

Our Polar Express Day was a success! The children had fun and they loved that that they were able to wear their pajamas and bring in their favorite stuffed animal. They are looking forward to Christmas and they can't wait until Santa brings them toys!

Thank you for the treats and Christmas presents! I appreciate them and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! I will see you back in January!

Baby, It's Cold Outside - Pre-K

Posted by [email protected] on December 16, 2021 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (27)

But really, it was not THAT cold this week, but we had the theme of "winter" anyway! We made our own snowball fight out in the Great Room with our giant white pom pom balls! It was a rainy day, so what better way than to pretend it's snowing inside! We also had some relay races. We put our hats and mittens on one side of the Great Room and we sat at the other end. When you heard 1, 2, 3, you ran to get your things on and raced back to the start. When it wasn't raining, we had fun outside and even got some moments where we didn't need our hat or mittens on. We also noticed some bugs outside and one friend mentioned, "I think the bugs are confused!" Well, we are in Cleveland so our weather is so unpredictable! For art, we painted with white paint. We also used marshmallows to paint with and some big Legos for a different design. Our math has been snowman matching and clip cards to find the corresponding number to the winter themed pictures. Our science has been all about digging the animals out from the frozen water! One boy said, "If I was this moose, I would NOT want to be stuck in here long...it's COLD in there!" Our sensory table is filled with different colors and sizes of pom poms! We are using them with muffin tins to sort and manipulate in the table. We have gotten served many "muffins" these past few days, muffins of many different colors that look oddly like a pom pom! We are excited for our pajama day and to watch Polar Express!
