This week was all about friends and we did a lot about how to be a kind friend! Since starting our new school year, we have noticed many peers who gravitate to only certain friends, so we have been making new connections and having the children get to know others in the classroom. We started this a few weeks back during "All About Me" week, and have continued by saying peers names when we talk to them and asking questions to get to know them (meal times work out well for this). We ask, "Do you have any pets?" or "What was your favorite thing you did today?" For some of our activities this week, we worked on paper dolls (the children had to share paper and only color on their own side of the paper). We discussed how to be kind (some answers were: share, hug a friend if sad, and help a friend clean up. We also heard the story of Rainbow Fish and talked about ow kind it is to share, just like Rainbow Fish did with his friends. Some of our math activities included counting to 10 and recognizing numbers 1-10 with various hands-on activities. Tomorrow, we will count how many letters we each have in our name and then compare to what our friends have. Our science table is full of textures and things to touch and look at through a magnifying glass. Our outdoor time has been full of construction trucks and digging! This group loves to spend a lot of time in the dirt and don't seem to mind when they are dirty from head to toe! We did some practice for the cake walk on Saturday! We are so excited for the Fall Festival!
