This weeks theme is "Fire Safety"
We introduced the theme of "fire safety" with cut out firetrucks, firefighters, and the word "hot" in large letters. During circle time we introduced the activities for the day and how to use the materials appropriately.
The children used a fork to dip into yellow, red and orange paint to put onto construction paper, they used the same colors to paint a cut out firetruck. The children used a paper plate to make a fire hat and to make a firedog face with a hat. On Friday they will use red, orange and yellow tissue paper to glue onto black paper to represent "flames."
Paint sensory bags with flames drawn on the outside of the bag, fire fighter houses with community helpers, popsicle sticks with Styrofoam boards, yarn ladders and on Friday they will use ladder connectors. These activities are to help children improve on fine and gross motor while also building on the skills they already have.
Social and Emotional:
Red cups with cut out flames for stacking, building, knocking over and working with friends. Also, watching a video on how to "stop, drop and roll." Having the children take turns stop, drop, and rolling in the classroom.
Cognitive and general knowledge:
Red, orange and yellow paper with matching objects, fire safety bingo, 3 different size cut out apples- matching to the correct place on the paper with the 3 sizes, cut out dogs with spots and numbers-matching with pom poms, 1 to 1 coordination, and on Friday they will do a "flame making experiment" with baking soda, vinegar and food coloring.
Health and Safety:
Reviewing rules and safe hands. On Friday, they will match cut out hands with the "My Plate" healthy eating.
