All About Bugs and Insects - Older Toddler

Language: Word wall with pictures of butterflies, caterpillars, ants, bumblebees, dragonfly and more! We learned about the bugs and read The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Cognitive: Counting caterpillars one to one correspondence, beehive counting numbers 1-5, counting bugs with various holders and counting spots on the ladybugs.
Motor development: Stringing leaves and flowers with spring colored pipe cleaners, yellow playdough with straws, firefly bugs with tongs and bugs with egg cartons and tongs. These activities help with a sturdy grip and really focuses on those fine motor skills.
Social emotional: Asking the children their favorite bug and having them put a sticker by the bug to represent a graph.
Art: Pom pom caterpillars on craft sticks, beehive- honeycombs on bowls, firefly sun catchers and cork stamping with green and brown paint.
Sensory bin: Shredded green and brown paper, magnifying glasses, bugs, and scoops.
Books: Bugs in my Hair!, Ladybugs Birthday, Ten little Caterpillars, Buzz Bumble to the Rescue, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
