An Author is the One Who Writes the Book

We learned all about authors this week! We started off with Ezra Jack Keats. We heard an all time favorite, A Snowy Day. We also read several books with the Peter character in them. We enjoyed hearing all about Peter and his friends adventures! We made a snowy day picture and drew a picture of what we like to do on a snowy day. We got lucky and there was snow on the ground outside so we tried to make a snowball just like Peter, but we decided not to bring it inside because it would melt! We then moved on to Helen Oxenbury on Tuesday. We read a few of her books. We especially liked the bear hunt, so we did that a few times! We also learned how to clap out syllables. We started with our names (mostly one and two syllables) and then moved on to harder and longer words like Mississippi and Constantinople. We have also been working on our names. We all know our first names, but it is our last names that have been our new activity. We say it, spell it and some can now write it. Wednesday was all about the Berenstein Bears with Jan and Stan Berenstein. We read a lot of their books and always talked about the lesson after the book (that’s why those books are so good!). We also made a bear collage and talked about the bear family compared to our families. Thursday was all about Leo Lionni! We learned that he wrote over 45 books! Many of our favorites are written by him. We made a class “Swimmy” and used measuring tape (like the book Inch by Inch). We had a rainy day inside so we played a lot of dance and freeze games and listened to the Trolls soundtrack as that seems to be one of our new favorites. Friday’s author is Vera Williams. We will also play Hi Ho Cheerio and work on turn-taking. This warmer weather has us feeling a little like Spring Fever! We hope it lasts!
