This week’s theme is Authors and we talked about different authors.  We talked about what they do which is write the words in the books and sometimes they also draw pictures for the books.  I asked questions about the parts of the books such as Where is the title of the book, where is the front of the book, where is the title page, etc and they were able to answer my questions.  We talked about how to take care of books by making sure our hands are dry and that we are turning the pages carefully so that the pages do not rip.

We practiced writing authors names, practiced writing letters up to Ww,  we made a Ww word list, recalled details in the story, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and we dictated what we would write about if we were an author.  The children did an activity where they matched names of the authors to the books they wrote.  We did a rhyming word list for words ending in -an.

We did some simple subtraction while using the math way, we did number recognition going up to 30 where they had to identify the number that I pointed to, counted the chocolate chips on cookies and matched them to the number line.  They did patterning with unifex cubes.  They practiced writing numbers as well.

We did watercolor painting where they painted whatever is it they wanted, we made a caterpillar from “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, and they made a book cover by drawing a picture of a book as if they were an author.

I have been talking about kindness because some friends are not saying nice things.  i explained that we should not say mean things to our friends because it can make our friends really sad and we don’t want our friends to be sad.  I told the children if they don’t like what their friends said, to tell the friend that it was not nice to say and that it hurts their feelings.  I will continue to talk about kindness during circle time as a reminder that we should be kind to everyone.

We celebrated my birthday and I brought in a special treat for the children.  They were so excited to get the special treat.    If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
