This week’s theme is 5 Senses.   We talked about each of the 5 senses and what they do.  We talked about what our eyes, ears, hands, nose, and tongue does.  They learned that not every has all 5 senses such as some people can’t see, hear, can’t smell, or have some sort of a sensory issue.  They learned that Helen Keller was a famous woman who could not see or hear but she did something amazing as fight for disability rights and she was an author.  They said that we are so lucky that we have our 5 senses because not everyone has that.  A child said that we should be kind to others and help them if we see them struggling.

We made a Yy word list, we listened to sounds and had identify what they were, we tasted Cherrios and oranges, and verbally said what they tasted like.   Some of the children stated that Cherrios tasted salty or bitter.  When they tasted the orange, some said it was either sour or sweet.  We made a word list for -un, and we practiced the letter sounds as a class.  We blindly felt things in a bag and then we dictated if we liked feeling the objects or not.  This is an experiment that children said they had never done but they enjoyed it.  One said they thought I was going to put something gross in the bag.

We practiced solving simple math problems by using our hands to count, we practiced counting by 2’s, we did a same/different activity where we had to state if the human and animal eyes were the same or different and why.  The children also counted the eyes. We counted how many objects that we felt and we verbally said the number.

We drew a picture of something that we see in our classroom, we drew pictures of our favorite foods that we like to eat, and we did a collage of things that we blindly felt during centers.

We went to see the play Rosie Revere, Engineer and Friends.  They said that they loved the play and they were so excited about going!  We talked about the play and what they remembered.  The play is based off the book written by Andrea Beaty,  She has written books and has a show on Netflix called, Ada Twist, Scientist.
