We had a fun week of going to the Zoo, seeing all of the animals, and looking at the different lanterns for the Asian Lantern Festival.  The children stated that it would be so cool to see them all lit up.  We went to the Women’s Aviation Museum and learned about the women who made an impact on aviation.  We were surprised to learn that Bessie Coleman got her pilot’s license before Amelia Earhart!  We finished off the week at Bohlken Park where we got to play games, play on the playground, and make our own Pokemon Cards.  Some of the children made creations out of leaves, sticks, and rocks.  When asked what they had made, they said a dam so that the water can’t go through it.  I had a bottle of water that I had brought and I had them pour water to see if the dam that they had made would break.

Coach Charlotte came and taught the children how to play Football where the learned new terms, how to hold the football, and how to throw the football.  They got to do some exercises such as running, galloping, lunges, etc.  They love it when she comes because they get to learn how to play new sports!

The children have been reading the Flat Stanley books and we have been talking about the books, what they are able to recall from the books, and what we would change about the books.  They were so excited to read the books and they asked if I would get more Flat Stanley books because i didn’t have the ones they read in school.   It was so exciting to see their faces light up when I announced the books that we are reading for the week.

We did research on Pokemon, talked about what they know about Pokemon, and we made our own Pokemon cards.  I gave the children choices if they wanted to keep them or trade them.  I explained that once they trade the cards they made, they cannot ask for them back.  Most of the children opted to keep them and take them home.  They had so much fun learning about Pokemon and making the cards.  I think its safe to say that this was the successful!

We wanted the children to learn to new things about each other and learn how to work together so the children played different games such as Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Memory.  They did some building with Lincoln logs, Y Interlocks, and Straws and connectors.  We made paper plate maze using paper plates and cut up straws.  The children made their own mazes and used marbles to try to get the marble through the maze.  We did different versions in case the first one didn’t work out for them.  They were so excited to make more because they felt the first one didn’t work out.

We had a very busy week and it was definitely hot outside but that didn’t stop us from having fun!
