The children are starting to get the hang of summer camp and they seem to be enjoying everything that we are doing.  We went to Huntington Reservation and the children loved it!  They loved the zipline, climbing, water feature, etc.  The children were in awe of the new playground because they didn’t know what they wanted to do first.  They were disappointed that we had to go back to the center.  We went to Kaufmann Park where the children played with the water, climbed on the climber, and did the balance beam.  We played different field games such as baseball, lacrosse, and practiced throwing balls to each other.  We finished off the week with Mud Day at the center.  The children were so excited to play with the other children from other classrooms.  They played in the mud, water, and helped the little ones that needed help.  It was a fun and busy week for the SSA children!

Our theme this week is Farm.  We talked about different farm animals, if the children ever lived on farm, been to a farm, and what types of animals they know live on a farm.  We did some research on farm animals, how and why they are important.  We learned that farm animals give us food such as milk, cheese, and meat.  We learned that not every farm has the same animals because some farms may only have alpacas or some farms may have lots of animals.  It depends on what the farmer wants to raise and how much land they have.  The children made pigs out construction paper where they drew the pigs and cut them out.  We made paper plate cows, and they colored a picture of a farm animal they liked.  We used craft sticks to try to construct a barn and one of the children asked if we could use Lincoln logs and blocks to make their own barn.  They added animals to the barn that they had made and told me that they made their own farm.  We loved seeing the creativity from the children and seeing how they can use the toys in the classroom to make barns.  Ms. Joanne came this week and the children made trivets.  They had so much fun with this craft and we loved seeing how each child made their own thing.  They were so excited to take their trivets home to show their parents!

Next week is a short week with only 1 field trip to Bradley Woods and we are closed on Thursday and Friday.  I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July!
