Helpers in the Community

It has been a good week learning about all the helpers in the community, and what their jobs are and how they are helpful. We have also been focusing on fire safety and the children have been practicing to stop, drop and roll! The children have also enjoyed listening to their peers share what they do at their home when there is a fire. Monday’s activities the children did some chalk art on pumpkins and in language they engaged in a community helper lotto game. In math the children played a mouse color match game. Tuesday in art the children painted with toothbrushes and in language they matched letters to a letter grid. In math the children matched fire extinguisher shapes. Wednesday in art the children did some band aid art and this activity focused on fine motor skills to peel open the band aids. In math the children engaged in a path game to get the fire truck to the fire station. Today we chose to skip art to keep our clothes clean for pictures. In language the children dictated what community helper they want to be and why and in math the children requested to play the path game again. Tomorrow in art the children will create a tissue paper collage and in language the children will match upper case and lower case letters. In the sensory table this week the children explored water with ice cube trays, tongs and vegetable counters. In science the children have been weighing small pumpkin erasers in a scale and will explore sound shakers too.
