It’s cooking week throughout the center and though our room doesn’t have to many “cooking” activities, we have been playing with our pretend food toys and talking about what they are and where they originated from, even though people from everywhere can enjoy them! We have tacos, egg rolls, different types of rice, and several others that the babies have been playing with and even pretending to eat! The discovery boxes have been out which has been a great way to show them how to push buttons and turn knobs. The older children tried their hands at using pipe cleaners and colanders, either fitting them through the holes or taking them back out of them. We put toys into paper bags and watched for them to reach in to pull them out and then drop them back into it. The smaller babies had plush vegetables and fruits to explore while different sized measuring cups and spoons have also been out in the room. Watching bubbles float over and around them have delighted the younger babies while the older ones try hard to try and catch them as they float near them. We have read a lot of fun books and showed black and white pictures to the youngest babies to help them focus on items they see. Developmental activities this week have included putting weight on their feet as we help them stand, reaching for toys above them and tummy time. Songs and flannel board stories have been used as great transition tools before nap time and art time has included painting with apples. It has been a fun food week and all of us are excited about what is coming up next.
