It is authors week and the children have learned that an author is someone who writes books, and as they shared, “The one who writes the words.” Each day this week the activities were based on one of the books written by the author of the day. Monday was Chris Van Allsburg. In art the children created a hamster and in math the children did a survey of what kind of pet they have. In language the children made a class book about how to take care of pets. At group we read his book, The Misadventures of Sweetie Pie. Tuesdays author, Steve Antony, famous for the Mr. Panda series. In art the children did a paper plate panda craft and in math the children looked at donuts and counted the sprinkles on one, they looked at similarities and differences of the donuts and talked about the different colors. In language the children continued working on the class book about pets. The story at group was Please Mr. Panda. Wednesdays author, Judy Schachner. In art the children explored a cat craft. In math the children identified and traced shapes and in language they engaged in a beginning sound letter bingo game. The group time story was Bits and Pieces. Today’s author, Mercer Mayer. In art the children glued together parts of a melted snowman. In math the children added buttons to a snowman using a die and in language the children explored writing letters in shaving cream. The book at group was Just a Snowman. Tomorrow we end the week with the author, Margret H.A; Rey. In art the children will engage in a train craft and in math the children will do some train counting. In language the children will match upper and lower case trains. At group they will listen to the story Curious George Takes a Train. In the water table this week the children explored various items to see if they sink or float.
