Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We had fun with this theme because we made a leprechaun trap! The children worked together using items from our classroom to build the trap. If there was something they wanted, they asked me if that can use it. We had so much fun with this and guess what? We almost trapped the leprechaun during nap time but the leprechaun was too quick! The children said that he took our gold coins and he left us gold chocolate! Others said he used his magic to escape from the trap and that’s a possibility but he did leave a mess and he colored on our table!!
The children reviewed letters sounds by picking a card, saying what letter it is, and what sound it makes. They did a Shamrock Sight Word match, Rainbow letter matching, practiced writing letters using the shamrock letters, The children practiced writing the words: leprechaun and shamrock. We watched a video on Ireland and we had a discussion if we would travel to Ireland. Some of the children said they would and others said they would not because it’s too far away.
They made their own leprechaun trap by using different manipulatives of their choice. They did an activity where they used the shamrock numbers to put them in order. They did a Gold Coin counting activity where they picked a shamrock number and counted out the number of coins. We did a Rainbow Ten Frame activity where we had count out the number of dots and match it to the number on the rainbow. We also did a Rainbow Roll and Cover where they had to roll the dice, find the number, and put a gold coin over the number until all of the numbers were covered with gold coins.
They made their own St. Patrick’s Day project, they made a rainbow out of popsicle sticks and they glued them to the pot and added a shamrock. They colored a shamrock using a green marker of their choice and they made a leprechaun using construction paper, paint, and paper plate.
We will be going to Safe Harbor Animal Rescue next Thursday to drop off the donations. Thank you so much for the donations! The animal rescue will be so happy and we are so happy to help them and the dogs.
