The PreK/PreK 2 have been practicing all month to put on the Biggest Show on Earth! We hope you enjoy the circus and all the hard work that they have put in to it!
Speaking of the Circus, it also happens to be our theme for this week. We talked about what we know about the Circus whether if the children have been to tone or heard others talking about it. They got to see a short video of people performing in a circus and one thing that the children noticed was that there weren’t any animals. When asked why, they said that some animals were dangerous and could hurt others and other children said that some animal groups felt that it wasn’t a good idea to have any animals because they belong in the wild. We talked about how difference between our circus and the circus performed if the children were to go to one.
We came up with a Circus word list, the children practiced writing circus words using the magic board, they used “popcorn” to write letters, and they tried to write their name using “popcorn”. The children did a peanut letter matching game, put the peanut letters in order, and searched for Circus words around the room.
The children counted the number of “popcorn” using 1:1 correspondence and number cards. They practiced writing numbers using popcorn, they did a Circus number puzzle, and we did some Circus simple addition. We used the peanut numbers to put them in order from 0-30 by using the number line and 100 Days of School chart for reference.
We did a Popcorn art project using popcorn bags, cotton balls, and yellow paint. They tore tickets and glued them onto red construction paper and they drew a picture of what they would think a circus would look like. We tried to do something different this week in Art and I think that the children really enjoyed it!
Thank you for all the wonderful treats, food, gifts, flowers, and cards! It was deeply appreciated and we felt so spoiled this week! You made us teachers feel special during Teacher Appreciation Week!
