Welcome to PreK 2! This week’s theme is Back to School. We talked about the rules of the classroom and I reviewed rules of the center. We did transition on Monday and Tuesday and our official day in PreK 2 was on Wednesday. The children did very well and they are catching on quickly but do need some reminders. This is okay as they are still in a new classroom. We talked about what is the same and different from the other PreK classroom. They said that the classroom is smaller, there’s no bathroom, and there’s no sink. One child said that we do not have blue cots like they have in PreK but we have folded mats. All of this is correct but they said they don’t seem to mind that PreK 2 is smaller. It does take some time toi get used to when coming from a larger classroom such as Preschool and PreK.
We did a letter and number sorting game where they had to figure out which card was a letter or number.. We did a What I want to Learn in PreK 2 dictation, they practiced writing their name and we charted our names and counted how many letters there is in our names by coloring in the squares.
They did a color bear sorting where they had to sort the bear counters according to their color, we did a number recognition activity, and we charted how we get to school.
They practiced cutting paper using scissors, We did a tear and glue art project, drew a picture of a school house, and they did watercolor painting.
