We hope that you had fun on your 3 day weekend with your children.  This week, I added the Sign in binder where your child will sign in every morning and I added the calendar which will help them number recognition.  During calendar, the children will learn the months, days of the week, seasons, and numbers.  We are doing 100 Days of School chart which will expose them of higher numbers and my previous PreK 2 classes LOVED it!  They would get so excited when we complete the entire chart.  Next week, I will introduce our letter, number, and sight words and this changes weekly.  I like to introduce our routine slowly so that they do not get overwhelmed this first week.  I’ve found it’s better to introduce things slowly so that they have time to get used to the classroom.

Our theme this week is All About Me.  We talked about what we like to do, about our families, and we talked about our bodies.  We named the different parts of our body.  They did a “Match the Body Part” game.  We did the Head, Shoulders, Knees song and it was a hit!  The requested that we sing it all this week.

The children did a dictation of what they like to do for fun, they did an activity where they had to find their name card and match the letters using letter magnets.  They did a letter recognition activity where they had to name the uppercase and/or lowercase letters.  They did an “All About Me” activity where they had to answer questions and I would write them down for them.

We did an activity where they had to pick a 0-10 number and identify it.  They traced 0-10 numbers using centimeter cubes and they did a patterning activity with counting bears.  This activity had different color dots and the children had to put the bears on it.

They drew a picture of themselves, they drew a picture of what they like to do for fun, and they did a family portrait.

This month, we are doing a Bee and Honey project where we will learn about bees, how important the bees are to our ecosystem, how honey is made, who studies bees and who helps the bees.  Each week, I will give the children some details during circle time and we will talk about it.  This week, I talked about the bees, which bees were social and solitary and what that means, they were shown pictures of bees, I showed a short video on bees.  I taught them the Baby Bumblebee song and they have requested that I sing it at the end of circle time.
