What an appropriate week for the theme of weather, we have had snow, cold, wind, rain and a variety of temps along the way. It has been fun letting them watch the leaves blow around and the snow fall as they sit by the big window. The older children painted at the easel, used chalk on chalkboards, explored the rain stick, and colored on paper. All of them enjoyed a puppet show and playing peek-a-boo with scarves. Fine motor activities have included stacking rings, shape sorters, lacing toys, pulling scarves out of large balls, and manipulating baggies with shaving cream and food coloring. There have been many songs, including “Rain, Rain, Go Away” and “Mr. Sun”, that they have listened to and some are doing hand movements at this time as well. The older children are starting to identify body parts by pointing to them, using a spoon while eating, throwing their paper towels away (with help), and signing at least two words. Our youngest babies have enjoyed bubbles and rousing games of “So Big”, which they think is hilarious. It has been a great week to highlight what is going on outside and next week promises to bring the same level of excitement and fun as we learn all about what makes a family.
