RAWR!! Here comes the dinosaurs!! This week we learned about those who roamed the Earth a long time ago. We started off the week talking about if dinosaurs were still around and many friends said no that they were extinct. We dug deeper into the word extinct and our friends did a good job telling us that it means they are no longer alive. We then went in to explain that when roaming the Earth, an asteroid hit it and caused the dinosaurs to become extinct or in pre-k terms…”they died.” We also discussed the different types of eaters that there were: carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We learned that carnivores have sharp teeth and claws so they can bite into meat, herbivores have flatter teeth to grind up plants and omnivores have both to eat both meat and plants (hey we’re omnivores!) From there the children worked on letter recognition, writing and rhyming activities at the language table. At the math table, the children worked on number recognition and patterning. We were creative at art creating hand print dinosaurs, painting a background to place a silhouette of a dinosaur on and their very own water color dino egg. We took a small step back from dinosaurs and worked on the letter of the week which was Kk. We came up with some Kk words, read a Kk book and worked on the Kk letter sound. We will end this roaring week with Miss Carly from the Beck Center with music class! We hope that you all have a wonderful and safe weekend. Stay warm out there!
