Before we started our week, we discussed how our Thanksgivings were. There were many different ways our friends celebrated their holiday. Some friends went to a relative’s house while others hosted at their house. Many of our friends had turkey and stuffing while others ordered out. It was fun to hear all the fun things the children did while on Thanksgiving break. Now that we are back in action…..”We are the dinosaurs, marching marching”…that’s right this week was all about the dinosaurs! We began the week by discussing what happened to the dinosaurs and why they became extinct. Many of our friends knew their dinosaur history and we came to the conclusion that a meteor hit earth which caused the plants to not survive which caused the plant eating dinosaurs to not survive which eventually caused the meat eater dinosaurs to not survive because without food…you can’t function…what a cycle! We also determined how you can tell the difference between a carnivore (meat eater) and an herbivore (plant eater). We will give you a hint…it all deals with their teeth and their feet! If the dinosaur had sharp claws and teeth then they were a carnivore and if the dinosaur had flat feet and teeth then they were an herbivore. This week our room was filled with dinosaur fun. At math, the children worked on number recognition activities and patterning. At the language table we worked on letter recognition and writing dinosaur words. At the science table, the children worked on helping the dinosaurs escape the ice. The sensory bin we had dinosaurs with sand and paintbrushes and the children became paleontologist and dug up the dinosaurs. At the art table this week the children got creative and lego stamped dinosaurs, created dinosaur bones with q-tips, made dinosaur tracks and painted a background for a dinosaur. Since last week was a short week, we picked up our letter of the week and it was Ll. We wrote Ll words, sang the Ll song and read the Ll book. To end this fun filled dinosaur week, our very own Coach Charlotte came to work with the children on some gross motor activities. We hope that the children enjoyed this week as much as we did and learned a little something new. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!
