I hope you’re staying warm this week with the frigid temperatures!  This week we have been talking about Artists, the different art mediums, and the children were shown different art works.  We talked about what different art tool are needed and we were able to show the children what they look like.  Art isn’t just paintbrushes and paint but can be used in every day life.  For example, we can paint with toothbrushes, cut out pictures of of magazines to make collages, or even use toy cars to make tracks with paint.  Music and photography can be art.  There is so much art around us that we do not realize that it was made by an artist who had something on their mind that they want to get out.

We focused on the Rr letter since this week was a bit crazy with school closings but instead we focused on what things we can find around the classroom hat start with Rr.  We went to see Billy Goats Gruff and Other Tales this week and we talked about what we recalled in the play.  The children had noticed that the play was a little bit different from the stories they’ve heard.  We explained to the children that you can take a familiar story and tweak it a bit which is what the actors did in this particular play.  We practiced writing art tool names and names of artists.  We reviewed what sounds each letter makes.

We did patterning with the woolen blocks and y-connectors.  The children used the calendar to figure out what number comes next or they had to figure out what number was missing.  They practiced writing numbers higher than 20 by picking our a card they wanted.  Some of the children did number recognition up to 30.  They practiced counting objects by making sure they touching each object as they count.

We did a still life picture by using an object that was in front of them (castle, pony, or dinosaur) and they used coloring pencils to draw out the object.  We did a watercolor painting art project and they did a collage by cutting out pictures from magazines.

We had music with Ms. Carly and we were so excited because music can be a form of art!

We have been doing our gross motor in the Great Room because it’s been too cold to go outside.  We hope that it warms up some so that we can get some fresh air and play outside.
