We started our week of with Hula in the Coola and the children had so much fun doing the limbo while dressed in their best hula gear!  We certainly wished that we were in Hawaii because it is warm and beautiful there!  With these cold temperatures, we certainly warmed up this week! We talked about Hawaii and how different it is there than here.  The children were shown where it is on the map.  They watched a very short video on Hawaii and expressed that they want to visit there.

We made a list of Ss words and the children reviewed the sound that Ss makes.  We matched uppercase letters to lowercase letters, practiced writing Ss.  We played the prepositional game where they had their choice of doing the prepositional cards or using the picture of the cat and placing it wherever they wanted.  We did a sequencing game and talked about what comes first, second, third.  They did a luau write the room where they used a clipboard, walked around looking for the words to write, and writing them down.  We also practiced writing the Hawaiian words as well.

We did a luau stacking cups game where the children stacked the red cups and had to count how many they stacked.  They did an activity where they practiced writing numbers using wooden blocks and number cards.  We made flowers using the colored wooden blocks.  They did a matching game of 2D and 3D shapes and we did Match it! Simple addition where they had to add the number of objects and find the number that goes with it.

In art, we drew a picture of a flower, they painted a picture of what they think it looks like in Hawaii, and we made a flower hibiscus using the picture for reference.  The children were told they can use any material they wanted to make their hibiscus picture.  They had so much fun doing art this wek!

Our theme for the month is Water!  I asked the children what do they know about water and how we can use water.  They were able to answer both questions and we had a discussion about it.  I read the book, Water Princess by Susan Verde and we had a discussion about the book.  We talked about how some different countries do not have running water like we do and they have to travel very far to get water and they do this daily.  I wanted the children to understand that not everyone is able to get water.  It certainly made them think that it’s not the same around the world.
