What a fun exciting week we have had exploring transportation!  The children have had boats, trains, cars, and buses to push around the room and discover on their own.  We are even working on the choo-choo sound of the train!  Our older babies have been working on fine motor skills with completing one piece puzzles, stacking small and large blocks, putting pipe cleaners through holes in a colander, sticking tissue paper to contact paper, working the pull and go animal toys, and stacking rings on posts.  They have played outside and have practiced getting on and off the ride on toys and fit balls into the tubes to watch them come out the bottom.  The tunnel was out to explore and balls have been rolled back and forth.  The younger babies have been hard at work reaching, rolling, sitting, eating, and moving.  They participated in peek-a-boo with scarves and watched bubbles float around them.  They sat with teachers and the older children to watch puppets sing and tell stories and with help, clapped their hands to different types of music playing in the classroom.  The older children danced to music and entertained the younger babies who watched with great interest.  Fun books have been read all about different types of transportation while some of our children have been practicing turning the pages by themselves.  Textured books have been a big hit this week with all the children and they have been helping hold their attention a little longer because of the sensory aspect of the activity.  We have been extra busy this week but it is definitely a favorite theme that they can relate to because of the toys they have been exploring.  Next week it will be all about those special people in their lives that take care of them and love them so much – the theme will be Mother’s!
