Summer has arrived and we have had some fun experiences related to the theme. In art this week the children painted with fly swatters, did some stamp painting, glued ice cream and cones to paper and painted red with black dots for a watermelon! Tomorrow the children will do some popsicle art. In language the children practiced writing summer words, matched ice cream letters and created letters with playdough. Today they dictated why they like summer and tomorrow they will explore tracing letters with gems. In math the children wrote numbers on a chalkboard by drawing a number card to use as a model to write. The children ordered flip flops by size, they added pom poms to cone cups to make ice cream, and they engaged in a roll n’ cover number activity today. Tomorrow the children will create patterns with ice cream. In the sensory table the children worked with water and beach toys. The drama area has some new fun materials as we set it up to a concession stand! The children enjoy putting on baseball jerseys and hats and then making a tray of food such as a drink, hot dogs and burgers with fries. The burgers and hot dogs also incorporate more fine motor as the children can take them apart and make them their own way as the pieces can snap together. The block area we brought in more cars and a road so the children can use the city blocks and road signs; however, the children have been more interested in working with the unit blocks and animals, busy bees in the block area! The art area had some new additions with fine motor pop balls, and sensory balls added for fine motor work. We updated our crayons and the playdough was refreshed. It is great to see the children go to this shelf and choose what art to explore. The language addition so far has been to include the binder of stories of all of traveling teddy’s adventures. The children love to read and look at the pictures. Star of the week continues to be a hit and we are seeing more confidence with the children when they get to call their friends to line up.
