The first week of summer brought us some serious heat outside, lots of sun, sweat, and fun. Monday in art the children painted on yellow paper using a loofah in orange paint. In language the children matched lettered sun rays to the letters on the sun and in math the children worked with a beach 1 to 1 correspondence grid and various summer items to put on it such as bright flowers, starfish, little dolphins and stars. Tuesday in art the children used a salad spinner to create some cool colored beach balls and in language the children dictated what fun activities they like to do in the summer. In math the children engaged in an ice cream cone concentration activity. Wednesday in art the children painted a paper plate with red paint mixed with some glue, to create a watermelon and added paper seeds. In math the children ordered flip flops by size from either small to big, or big to small. Today was a swim day, and a perfect day for a swim! Lots of fun splashing the water and lounging on towels in the shade. In language the children formed letters using play dough and in math the children practiced writing numbers on writing boards. Tomorrow in art the children will have some choices to paint with cups, or paint a beach scene, or both! In language the children will practice writing summer words and we will use books to help think of what summer words we can write. In math the children will practice writing numbers again, but also show what the number is using bear counters. The children will also have loads of fun tomorrow for MUD DAY!!! In the water table this week the children explored boats with starfish, small fish and people counters, and letter blocks were added to the block area. The children also explored some science machines: a pulley, lever and pendulum; it’s great to watch and see what they do with these simple machines. The children also enjoyed tie dying their shirts this week and they have turned out so colorful!!
