Construction!

The theme this week is construction and in the easiest way possible, we have brought it to the classroom in building towers with different sized blocks as well as pushing large vehicles around that one might see at a construction site.  We have read different books to them, sang songs, and used puppets to tell stories about different occupations.  They explored nesting cups figuring out how to fit them inside one another and then then stacking them on top of another one.  They were able to practice taking rings off a post with our stacking ring toys and then try putting them back on again.  There has been a lot of waving, blowing kisses, and “hi” as the older children are learning to reciprocate greetings.  They also have learned to clap for themselves and other children when they have accomplished something, this always brings a lot of smiles.  Our youngest babies have been working on reaching for toys above them, watching themselves in a mirror, and tummy time, with some of these activities going over a little better than others, it is all a work in progress.  All the children are learning to listen for their names being called and either turning toward us or coming to us when they do hear it.  Peg boards, pounding benches,  and shape sorters have been out to work on fine motor skills and the art activities have included stickers, paint, and stamps.  We have been moving and grooving this week, busy learning and perfecting new and different skills, and next week will bring Christmas into our room – this should bring a lot of fun!
