The children are getting excited for the winter weather and for more snow to come. Monday in art the children watercolor painted mittens and in language the children matched lettered mittens. In math the children added cotton balls to a mug of cocoa using a die to determine how many cotton balls to ad. Tuesday in art the children added cotton balls to a snowman, they were introduced to stretching the cotton too to give more a fine motor task to the experience. In language the children matched snowflake letters by using a clothespin to clip the matching snowflake that was on the card. In math the children worked on counting and becoming familiar with various ways to see bow numbers are arranged. The activity was to match snowballs showing numbers in different ways to the number on the snowman hat. For example, for snowman 2 there was a picture of a die representing 2 on one snowball, the next snowball showed 2 dots on a ten frame, the third snowball showed a hand holding 2 fingers. Once all twos were found, the snowman was built. Wednesday in art the children created a snowmen at night picture. The snowman was made from contact paper and placed on paper. The children then finger painted over the paper. In the afternoon the children painted snowflakes to the creation. Once dried, the paint was removed from the contact paper to create the image of a snowman at night. In language the children practiced writing letters in a tray of instant snow, and in math the children engaged in a snowman memory game. Today in art the children created a sun by drawing a circle, ripping up scrap paper and gluing to the sun. In language the children dictated what they like to do in the snow and in math the children worked on number identification by looking at the number card the teacher held up, and then finding the number on their snowman. Tomorrow in art the children will create igloos with shaving cream, glue, and sugar cubes. In language the children will work on initial sounds using pictures to help identify beginning letter sounds. In math the children will engage in a hot cocoa mugs concentration activity. In the sensory table this week the children first explored shredded white paper with bowls and animals. The rest of the week the children have been working with instant snow, bowls and animals.
