The weather has sure made this week’s theme more exciting! Monday in art the children watercolor painted mittens and in language they practiced writing their names. In math the children added “snow,” (cotton balls) to a cup and used a number die to tell how many to add each turn. Tuesday in art the children glued cotton to a snowman and in language the children matched lettered mittens. In math the children hunted around the room for numbered snowballs. Wednesday in art the children created snowflakes with a fork! In language the children wrote winter words and in math the children copied patterns on winter hats. Today in art the children built a snowman by cluing all it’s parts together on paper. In language the children dictated what their favorite thing to do in the snow is and in math the children built snowmen by matching it’s parts by number. Tomorrow in art the children will work with a shaving cream and glue mixture to glue mini marshmallows to a bowl to make an igloo! In language the children will work on their pre-writing skills to trace shapes and in math the children will engage in a hot cocoa mug concentration activity. In the sensory table this week the children explored snow with ducks and bowls. In science the children worked with horseshoe magnets and magnet wands. The children also played so many different gross motor games and activities in the great room: they did several locomotor games to run, hop, skip, crab walk, and bear crawl. they explored hopscotch, balance boards and balance beams! More running and freeze dances, ball games to bounce, walk with the ball between legs, jump with ball between legs, roll the ball, walk the ball with our feet and so much more great room fun! The drama area became a wrapping center, and the children are enjoying this and are very busy wrapping boxes and blocks. It is great to see how much they are familiar with how to wrap gifts, write names on tags and add bows! The children have also been interested in floor puzzles, so we brought out a United States puzzle to work on. They also continue to be interested in block play, and we will be adding more fun things to this area too.
