This week’s theme has been fun for the children with all the activities going on this week. Monday in art the children painted with a potato masher, in math the children engaged in a kitchen utensil bingo game; this activity brought on a lot of discussion about what the tools are used for. In language the children looked for letters on a chef hat. Tuesday in art the children got creative as they glued macaroni onto their paper. In math the children graphed fruit and vegetable counters by color and in language the children dictated what their favorite food is, why, what they eat it with and how to make it; check them out, they are hanging on the classroom window. Wednesday in art the children explored marble painting, the children get so excited to open the box and see what they have created. In math the children sorted pictures in two groups: foods we cook, and foods we do not cook; this also brought on discussions about how some of the foods are cooked. In language the children picked a letter card from the basket, and practiced writing it on a chalkboard. Today in art the children explored painting with food cans, something different and fun. In math the children matched shaped pizza toppings to a pizza! In language the children looked for letters in a pot of vegetable soup (beans and letters). They scooped some out into a bowl, and then picked out the letters to identify. Tomorrow in art the children will glue food pictures to to paper to create a food collage. In math the children will work with cookies and match the numbered cookies together, and in language the children will do some letter writing practice as they explore writing words of kitchen tools. In science this week the children explored various kitchen tools: can openers, measuring spoons, rolling pins, whisks, potato mashers, turkey basters, colanders and spoons. We saw so much creativity and representations of children mixing in their bowls, rolling the pins and twisting the handles of the openers; and so much more.
