The them is cooking and the children have enjoyed sharing their favorite meals! Monday in art the children painted with potato mashers and in language they matched letters to a chef hat. In math the children engaged in a kitchen utensil bingo game. Tuesday in art the children painted chef hats with bingo dabbers and in language they dictated what their favorite meal is and how to make it. In math the children sorted fruit and veggie counters by color, and then by type. Wednesday the children explored playdough with rollers, spaghetti noodles and cookie cutters, In language the children scooped letters out of a bowl, alphabet soup, and then identified the letters they scooped. In math the children continued to sort food by color and type. Today in art the children painted with q-tips and in language they explored the alphabet soup and added the veggie counters to it. In math the children added shape toppings to a pizza. Tomorrow in art the children will make a scissor salad by cutting the colors of a salad and gluing the salad parts on paper. In language the children will make a grocery list by looking at food group pictures and children choose what food words to write. In math the children will go around the room looking for pictures of food and counting the number of items in the picture. The block area continues to be a hit with the snow blocks, and the children are getting more creative with their structures. Yesterday they created more places for the arctic animals to sit on their structures. Some children have even built square snowmen! The drama area also shows interest with the children making food for each other, and the teachers, and we added the stove to the area and it’s fun to see them dress up in the aprons and chef hats as they cook. The children also have watched short videos this week of children cooking they watched a toddler make a cake, they have watched pizza dough being tossed in the air and they watched how to make scrambled eggs, sticky buns and banana pancakes, yum! The children also shared ideas of what they want to make in the classroom and the majority hose to make a cake so we will end the week making cake!
