Hoppy Easter! This week’s theme is Easter. The children kept reminding me all week that Easter is coming up this weekend. I explained that it is on Sunday because some of the children had a disagreement as to what day Easter is on. We talked about our plans for Easter. The children told me that they will hunt for Easter eggs while others said they are going on vacation. We talked about having Friday off and they were so excited to have a longer weekend! We talked about Easter and the children said that the Easter bunny comes to give them candy and presents, they get to go on Easter egg hunts, play Easter games, and spend time with their families.
We did an Easter dictation where they had to answer the question, “What to do you know about Easter”, I wrote down what they said, and then they drew pictures. They did a Easter letter matching game where they had to match the lowercase letters to the uppercase letters and they did an activity where they matched lowercase Easter eggs (different colors). We came up with a list of Easter words and the children had to pick a word to write.
They did Easter Tic Tac Toe, they played Sorry! Sliders game, they played the Giant Candy Land game where they had to find the candy and colors on the squares. They did a jelly bean graphing activity where they had to graph the jelly beans according to the color and they they had to tell me which was more, less, or equal. They sorted the jelly beans by its colors to the colored circles. Some of the children took it a step further and counted how many were in each circle. They played Easter Connect 4 game and they loved this game! They kept asking if they could play it over and over. Finally, we did an activity where they had to guess which was heavier: the real egg or jelly bean and fake egg or jelly bean. The final count was split so we used a scale to measure and the real egg is heavier than the jelly bean and the jelly bean is a bit heavier than the fake egg. The children were astonished by the results.
We dyed craft eggs and applied stickers to the eggs, the children drew Easter pictures, and some of the children wanted to create their own Easter eggs out of construction paper. I explained that the eggs that we dyed are not real because I wanted them to make something that they can keep forever. They were very excited and they couldn’t wait to show their families!
We talked about kindness and keeping our hands to ourselves. Some of the children were saying things that were not kind and I explained that we should not say unkind things because our friends could be upset or it would make them mad. I explained that if they think it is unkind to keep it to themselves. Some of our friends are getting a bit rough with our hands and they know that we cannot push our friends or play games that involve touching like tag. I reminded them of our classroom rules and I asked the children what our rules are: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Neat.
