In the words of Sebastian from The Little Mermaid…Under the sea…under the sea! This week has been a fun filled week learning about the ocean and what lives underneath. We learned about the different layers of the ocean which include: sunlight, twilight, midnight and the abyss. When looking at a picture of a jar with these layers, the children noticed that as you go deeper into the ocean that it gets darker. With that in mind, we also discussed what kind of equipment you would need in order to go down to the depths. We learned about the oxygen tank that divers wear and know that it helps them breathe for a period of time while they are under the sea. At language the children put shells in ABC order, played BINGO, and wrote under the sea words. At math the children worked on a sea animal more or less game where they compared to sets of sea animals to determine who had more or less in the groupings. The children worked on number recognition activities as well as color sorting sea animals. At the art table, the children were creative to paint sea shells, paint with sponges and even made a jellyfish out of a paper bag. Pierce’s mom came to read to us this week. We also had our friends from H20 hangout with us where they read us books, played a game and we worked on a craft with them. This week has been a fun week learning about the sea. We are excited for next week which starts our field trips! We hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.
