Happy Halloween!  We had a fun and spooky week!  We talked about how to be safe trick-or-treating.  The children said that we need flashlights when we go trick-or-treating and we have to stay close to our mommies and daddies.  Some said that stay away from houses that look spooky.  We talked about Halloween things that we see such as jack-0-laterns, pumpkins, leaves, ghosts, skeletons, kids dressed up in costumes, and adults who dress up in costumes.  The children said the most important thing that for Halloween is candy!  I explained that they should be respectful of children who may not be as fast as them and not to knock anyone down.  They told me that it’s important to say Trick-or-Treat and to say thank you.

We made a list of words that start with Ii, they practiced writing the letter Ii, they wrote Halloween words, they did a Halloween letter matching game, and Halloween Bingo (it had pictures and words).  We read Halloween books and I asked the children questions about the stories.  The children were able to recall details in the stories.  They asked if they could read the books later which made me happy because this shows that they are interested in reading.

We did a counting and number recognition activity where the children used little pumpkins to count.  they subitized the number of pumpkins on ten frame cards, they picked a card and counted out spiders.  They played Spider Web Roll and Cover game where they rolled dice, looked for the number, and covered it with spiders.

We made a Haunted House in art, a mummy, and the children drew pictures of something they saw when they were trick-or-treating.

Ms Brenda did a rice crispy activity where the children put white sticks in the rice crispy treats, dipped them in chocolate, and covered it with sprinkles.  They had fun and they loved it!  Thank you, Ms. Brenda!  We went trick-or-treating and it was so much fun!  We saw lots of people dressed up and the children told me their favorite was the M&M’s.  Thank you, Ms. Judy for the Halloween games the children played.  They had so much fun!  Thank you to Ms. Holle for letting us go Trick-or-Treating!  Thank you to our PreK2 parents for your contribution to our Halloween Celebration!  Thank children were so happy to see the yummy treats!
