Happy Halloween from PreK 2 and School Age!  Your children had so much fun with our Halloween theme this week.  They told me they they cannot wait until they go Trick-or-Treating and get lots of candy!  They told us what their costumes are and they are so excited that they got to wear them here at school.  We talked about our plans for Halloween and what they did in the past with their families.  Some of the children said they go with their parents on their street while others said they go to their grandparent’s street and trick-or-treat there.  We had the school age children for 2 days and they told the children what they do for Halloween and what their costume was going to be.  We did Halloween songs and games in the Great Room and we trick-or-treated upstairs on the 3rd floor and around the center where the classrooms passed out candy.  They told us how much fun they had and how much they love it when we do these activities.

This week we worked on the letter Hh where the children came up with Hh words, they were able to tell us what sound it makes, and they practiced writing the letter.  They practiced writing Halloween words, did a Halloween letter matching game, and looked for words that started with Hh around the classroom.  These are the words that we had came up with this week.

We did a number recognition where I pointed to random numbers and they had to verbally tell me what the numbers are.  They did a Pumpkin Number Tower activity; this activity they counted the dots on the domino and made a tower using the unifex cubes.  They picked a card and counted out the number of spiders, and we did a Spider Web Roll and Cover game where they rolled the dice and whatever number came up, they covered it with a spider on the paper.  They practiced writing numbers using number cards as reference.

They drew their own version of haunted house using black paper and a white coloring pencil, they made a “scary” spider that had lots of eyes, and they picked their own Halloween project they wanted to do.

Please make sure your children have a warm coat for when we go outside.  It’s getting colder and colder and we have noticed that some of the children don’t have warm enough outerwear.
